Spring is here!!

Finally!! My favorite season. I always say it’s my reward for surviving winter (my least favorite season.) And I feel like it’s especially true this year. I think I’ve mentioned this before but we have had back to back sicknesses since the last week of 2016. 3 solid months of having sickness in our house, with only a few breaks (each break only lasting a week, at most.) We have been fever free for one week now! And I’m just hoping that the way I’m feeling right now doesn’t lead to another sickness because I will probably cry.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop over here and just give a little update on our lives because I haven’t had too much of a chance (or the energy/motivation) to keep up with my blog lately. Last week, on the first day of spring, (when these pictures were taken) we had a beautiful 86 degree day! Last year at this time I was pregnant and we really didn’t spend too much time outdoors. But this year will be different. We try to get out there as much as we can. We live on a pretty quiet street. So even though we don’t have much of a backyard, we spend quite a bit of time in the front yard and taking walks up and down the sidewalks. Everyone is much happier and kinder to one another when we aren’t stuck inside. And I’m less stressed because I don’t see messes that need to be cleaned up 😉

Clementine gets so much attention in our family. Everyone is obsessed with her. It’s so special to watch each of their relationships with her. It makes me wonder if they’ll always treat her this way. For the most part, the boys still treat Evangeline like royalty so I’m hoping the same will be true for Clem.

These smiles!! Every time I set the camera down, someone else would ask me to take a picture of them…just because they thought it was hilarious to smile every time I said “don’t smile.” I always have mixed feelings about that little game because I wonder if they’ll start to think they can turn disobeying into a game. But so far they’ve figured out when it’s “okay” to disobey and when it’s not. And I end up with these beautiful smiles. So I think i’m okay with it for now.

Kai had a fever this day and started dealing with daily headaches for a while too. He would complain about it being too bright. Of course my brain has two settings. 1) way too laid back. 2) panic and google every symptom. In this situation, I started to panic. With my history, my brain always makes me assume cancer. Thankfully that worry slipped away as soon as it came into my mind. I also worried about migraines or the need for glasses, but thankfully it must have been some weird little virus because after one week, the headaches stopped!

Clem’s obsession—grabbing onto her feet! It’s totally adorable! And because I’ve been asked before, her bracelet was a gift from my mother-in-law from June and Penny

Also, this camera? It’s one of the kids’ favorites! I had a blog post in mind to share some of their (well, mainly Clementine’s) favorite toys right now. But sick kids have prevailed lately. The blog post was going to be “Clementine’s favorite toys at 5 months.” She will be 6 months old next Tuesday. So I’ll have to rename the blog post but she still has the same “favorite toys.” So it works 😉

We have been coming up with some scavenger hunts to do along our walks. Nothing that creative. But if anyone has some fun outdoor spring activities to suggest (that don’t require a lot of prep or money) send them my way because I trust my readers more than a pinterest board!

Also!! We entered a video contest to win $10k. The top 10 videos will go to the judges who will decide who the winner is. Thank you to everyone who has already voted for us or shared our video. This would be an amazing blessing for our family to win. You do have to have a facebook account to enter but voting only takes like 30 seconds and you don’t have to register for anything!

Vote HERE!!!

So anyway, that sums up what has been going on with us! Now that spring is here, I hope to have a lot more to add to this space and hopefully Don
can get back to vlogging. Here’s his most recent upload for anyone interested. Thank you for reading along!!

Valentine’s Cupcakes

Target has already stocked their dollar spot with spring decorations and St. Patrick’s Day and Easter decor and I’m sitting here typing up a blog post about Valentine’s Day. But since they still had Valentine’s Day stuff on clearance in the back of the store, I’m going to say that it’s not too late to post this blog post. And don’t you dare try to judge me for using Target’s marketing timeline to my justify my blogging timeline. Don’t. you. dare. (Also, I posted a new vlog at the end of the post!!)

Before we had kids, Valentine’s Day was never super exciting to me. I was never one of those that totally opposed the holiday but I also never really did much to celebrate it. Once the kids started getting old enough to understand holidays a little better, I fell in love (pun absolutely intended) with Valentine’s Day. Now we are all about the hearts, red, pink, and love love love leading up to the big day. We usually like to make sugar cookies but since we just did some for Christmas (and the fact that Liam and I don’t even care for them) we decided to do cupcakes this time around.

Not just any cupcakes–cupcakes from an Aldi cake mix. Because, hey, I have 6 kids and sometimes that’s what you get. Plus I thought it would be fun for Liam to read the directions to everyone and they could make them by themselves (with a little help from their mom—sung to the tune of the Beatles’ song.)

When I wasn’t holding Clem, I was videoing on the GoPro so I didn’t really get many pictures. But I’m sure you really don’t care to see 30 pictures of the kids gathered around the Kitchenaid. And no boxed cupcakes would complete without store bought icing! I totally prefer homemade but this was wayyyy easier.

Desmond woke up from his nap just in time for the cupcakes to be iced. We put him on a chair and he immediately grabbed an uniced cupcake and tried to take a giant bite out of the paper. He quickly found the right way to eat and devoured it in minutes. They weren’t the fanciest cupcakes in the world. But the kids had a ton of fun making (and eating) them and that’s really all that matters.

And Clem just watched with that sweet face of hers. I just can’t get over those cheeks and that face.

and a few Valentine’s related iphone shots…

And look at this sweet watercolor portrait of Clem by Painted Truth Co. on instagram. She has an etsy shop and does custom portraits. She just happened to find Clem’s pictures through instagram and painted a couple. They are so so adorable!

This picture was way harder than I expected without Don at home. I had to fix Evangeline’s hair, hope she didn’t move, then I had to fix my own hair with the boys holding my phone over my head to see myself. Then I had Kai (6 years old) take the picture all while I was suffering one of the top 3 worst headaches (migraines?) I have ever had in my life (after we took the picture I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore because it got so bad.) Oh what I do for a picture sometimes haha.

So blurry, but so cute! And look! They are all smiling….at the same time!! It’s a Valentine’s miracle.

We went out to get donuts for Valentine’s breakfast.

And I made the most delicious cookie cake for dessert that night. This picture is so blurry but they wanted a picture with the cookie cake so I obliged. Also, anyone want the most amazing recipe in the world for cookie cake? It far surpasses store bought–like, I can’t even eat store bought because the quality is just that much worse. If a few people are interested, I will put together a post to share the recipe.

I hope you had a happy Valentine’s Day, however you celebrate it!

Make sure to check out the video of the kids making the cupcakes!

Decking the Halls

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is when we decorate for Christmas in our matching Christmas jammies! Okay, so the tradition only started last year. But it’s something that we all were looking forward to as November came to a close. The best part is that all the pajamas I bought for the kids last year still fit them this year! I couldn’t find another set for Clementine so she gets to play the part of the cutest little Santa baby.

We don’t have a set day to set up our tree, but this year we decided to do it on the Monday before Thanksgiving. We set up our Pandora station and made sure the best Christmas album of all time (Hanson: Snowed In) was on it and then I pretty much let Don and the kids do all the work. I had plans to make another Christmas video like last year but I had a baby to snuggle. Don did make a vlog though! So I’m attaching it at the end of this post because I love it! I hope you watch it because Don works really hard and does such a great job with these videos.

These $3 bottle brush trees from Target!! Love them! I want to fill my house with bottle brush trees. I also love that darling baby!

I’m not always the best at remembering to take pictures of the little details. But I love this tip toe picture–because one day soon, they won’t need to stand on window sills on their tippy toes to try to put ornaments on the tree.

Kingston and Evangeline worked faithfully on the same little portion of the tree for the entire time.

Surprisingly, our trouble making 1 year old has been leaving the tree alone for the most part! Not sure how we managed that.

Notice all those ornaments where Kingston and Evangeline had been working. I’m claiming an artistic eye for both of them.

This face melts me. She smiles a lot for us but when the camera comes out, she gives this look. It totally cracks me up.

And this is pretty much how the tree looked by the time they were done. The chaos of the ornaments was totally stressing me out. So the next day I took down all the ornaments, (except a few gold ones) and decided that’s how we were keeping the tree until we could buy new ornaments. We had this same set since we first got married and I was ready for a change.

BUT!! Then I saw a rainbow tree on instagram and decided to pull our ornaments back out to try my own version. I fell in love! It makes me so happy to see all the colors. I do think it needs more/different ornaments but this will definitely keep me smiling until we can purchase discounted ornaments after Christmas is over! Now I’m torn if I should go with my sophisticated and pretty color scheme (think golds, blush, white, mint, red) or if I should stick with this fun color scheme. Thoughts??

And just for fun–our little real life Elf on the Shelf. #haterswillsayitsphotoshop

This is what happens to your elf on the shelf when you aren't watching Magic is real. #haterswillsayitsphotoshop #WHPmagic #darlingclementine

But for real, don’t go calling CPS. She was completely safe.

And here is the video for your viewing pleasure..Enjoy!
